Rytellia back! This time, we’re tackling a game from my childhood that got rereleased in better graphics in the last couple of years: Final Fantasy X. Now, there are many points of strategy with this game, but we’re going to focus on a basics: Aeons, where they are, what makes them special, and when to use which one.
Aeons – Where to get
Let’s go in order of when you can get them, shall we?
- Valefor – Cannot miss, obtained in Besaid Island. Yuna’s first summon.
- Ifrit – Cannot miss, obtained in Kilika Island.
- Ixion – Cannot miss, obtained on the Djose Road.
- Shiva – Cannot miss, obtained after the Macalania Forest.
- Bahamut – Cannot miss, obtained in Bevelle.
- Yojimbo – Missable, Obtained in the Cavern of the Lost Fayth. You have to buy his loyalty.
- Anima – Missable, Obtained in Baaj Temple. You have to use the destruction sphere in every Trails of the Fayth in order to get Anima, which may mean backtracking.
- Magnus Sisters, Sandy, Cindy, and Mindy – Easiest to miss, Obtained in Requiem Temple, hidden in the Calm Lands. You have to get every Aeon and unlock the flower based pins by way of the Fiend Arena. Defiantly doable, but will take time.
Aeons – How to get
- Valefor – Bahamut – Don’t die/stop playing? Honestly you cannot miss them at all.
- Yojimbo – Do not even attempt to get Yojimbo if you don’t have at least 250,00 Gil. When he asks what you would have him do, select the option that deals with defeating the strongest enemies (I think the exact working is To Defeat the Strongest Opponents). When he asks for 250,000, offer half of that and one extra Gil, 125,001. If you go at half he will decline everything. Keep going with with half and one Gil tactic until his asking price is 205,000. When you see this you know you have him. From here, offer anywhere between 190,000 to 200,000. If you’re low on Gil? Stick around 190,000, but a higher bid will help get his ultimate move, because Yojimbo does not act like normal Aeons.
- Anima – This is more than just getting an Aeon, this is a supremely annoying boss fight at the same time. You’re going back to the temple at the beginning of the game and fighting the same skeletal fishy you almost got eaten by. Once that’s done, you can enter the temple. Every Aeon who has had a Trial of the Fayth has a special sphere, a destruction sphere. In order to get Anima, you may have to backtrack to get all of these destruction spheres used in the proper spots. I found almost every time I had to go back to Bevelle.
- Magnus Sisters – The magnus sisters are the final aeon you can get and you have to get them last. You cannot open their door without have Yojimbo and Anima. In order to get them after you have all the others, you need to have a chocobo trained so you can ride one. Once you do, you can trot your bird over to Requiem Temple. Here, you can battle Belgemine’s Aeons and once you defeat Bahamut, you obtain item one, The Flower Sceptre. Most likely you already have item two, the Blossom Crown, but if you do not, just take a trip up and down Mt. Gagazet with your capture weapons on and get at least one of every fiend up there. Once you have all the fore mentioned pieces, the sisters are yours!
Special niches
- Valefor – Smaller land based enemies (Dogs/wolves/lizards/etc) cannot hit Valefor. Even if she’s low on health, she’s a great pick if you need to annihilate quickly.
- Ifrit – For being an aeon so early in the game, Ifrit’s fire alignment is super helpful. Also, Meteor Strike penetrates the Protect status, so it helps a lot with most anything that needs an Armor Break.
- Ixion – Ixion’s Aerospark has a special piece to it, as well as an attack it’s a dispel! Great for enemies who keep a high buff count on themselves.
- Shiva – Shiva is unnaturally fast, especially in the evade category. If you have a creature who’s moving too fast for you, Shiva’s your girl.
- Bahamut – This is the first aeon you can get that automatically has Break Damage Limit. Impulse is the only aeon unique attack that can hit everyone.
- Yojimbo – While he can be a major pain, Yojimbo has a massively helpful trick up his sleeve: Zanmato. It’s insanely hard to get him to trigger this, the tips I can give are this: Have a butt load of Gil, NEVER let him die, and always pay at least 100 per attack. Eventually, with a little luck, you’ll get this gem of a move to happen.
- Anima – Anima has many different tricks up her bandages, my favorite being that her unique ability, Pain, causes instant death. Naturally many of the difficult bosses and harder fiends are immune to death, so Pain also deals a boat load of damage.
- Magnus Sisters – These three are my favorite aeon to summon just because of the versatility they have. Each of them are Break Damage to start, each have their own specialties (Mage/DPS/Tank), and when brought together, their Delta Attack is beyond supreme.
