Beat Saber – how to get into the sword-swinging groove!

Ready to slice?! Art by Rytellia

Hello one and all! Welcome to this weeks post all about slicing and rhythm. I know, not everyone has rhythm in their bones. But anyone can get the feel down enough to enjoy it! Here’s what I do and what I have done to get ready and to annihilate those blocks!

1 – Be prepared

Beat Saber IS a workout. It’s not like lifting weights or running a mile, but you will see your heart rate go up and your muscles will be working hard. Start slow, warm up, stretch, drink water, and if you feel tired or sore? Stop! My boyfriend decided not to be smart with the before and after and ended up locking up one of his shoulder muscles pretty bad! Take care of yourself, no game is worth a 3 day migraine.

2 – Make space

This game is super easy to dive into and lose the real world, but everything is still existing around you. I’ve had it a couple of times where I have lost track of exactly where I was standing and smashed my hand or my foot into a chair or a person. Before you start the game, make sure you have at least arms length one step to each side. Front and back is important too, but you only need to worry about the step your at.

3 – Get your energy up

Nothing is more frustrating when you go into the game with low energy and you just can’t get into your groove. You’re starting slow to get ready and just nothing is flowing. I will typically listen to a song before I even pop up the game, something with a very noticeable beat or just a jam that I love to dance to. Anything to get my energy up!`

4 – Have fun and take your time

Enjoy it! Many of these levels are designed for you to be able to dance, jive, flow, or whatever you prefer to do once you get the feel down. There’s a custom song I’ve seen quite a few times on the PC version of Gangnam Style with the dance built into the version. Failures will come, tough songs are always out there. Don’t get down on yourself! If you keep practicing it, you’ll achieve victory!
