Genshin Impact has an ever growing list of characters to play as, each as unique as the different areas they all come from. Each city has a major inspiration from a place in our real world to tie to the cultural differences between nations and how they can coorolate and differ.
Liyue is the Land of Contracts and home to the Geo Archon, Rex Lapis. Liyue is heavily based off of China and Chinese cultures, this can be seen in the festivals that are celebrated, the architecture in the buildings, the style and demeanor of the characters you meet. The Geo Archon fakes his death as Rex Lapis in the story and continues to go by his civilian name, Zhongli.
