Pokémon – Pokémon Ball Plus Review

Disclaimer: This is not a paid article, this is my own personal opinions on the item I purchased myself.

Pokémon has been a game that has consumed gamers for decades. From the kinship between your Pokémon and the battling and leveling it’s been a huge grind to love, battle, and catch ‘em all.The biggest factor that gets in the way? Time. It takes time to level up all of the Pokémon in your Dex. It takes time to get all of your Pokémon to be your best friend. With how often these games get refreshed, it’s a constant grind and there are some games that are never ending, like Pokémon Go.

There’s an accessory that was released a little while ago that I just picked up on a whim to try out, the Pokéball Plus. This little thing has been a game changer already for me. Here’s how:

Pro: Pokémon Go – No more being glued to your screen.

Pokémon Go is a great way to stay active and be outside. The only meh thing is you’re basically glued to your phone! Especially how sucked in you can get in these games with all the grind, it can be dangerous at times too. Having a little ball around my neck or on my hip to let me know when I have a Pokémon nearby so I can focus on my walks or runs is so nice. The fact is also auto loots Pokéstops is a god send. I will never run out of items again!

Pro: Pokémon Sword/Shield – Taking Pokémon on a Stroll

This seems like a pretty small and mundane thing, but it’s actually super useful! If you carry the Pokéball with you when you go for a walk, you’ll get credit for (I think) every step you took since the you put the Pokémon in the ball. Also, if it cries out to you and you respond, you’ll get additional credit. You can also play Pokémon Go while you have the Pokémon in the ball to get even more credit.

What does this credit give you? In game items. This can be in the form of rare candies or berries. The more you interact with the Pokéball the better it is for your in game.

Pro: Let’s Go Eevee / Pikachu – Throwing the ball

Let’s face it, the Let’s Go games were fun, but the premise of throwing the JoyCon repeatedly wasn’t the easiest in the world. To me, it felt weird and out of place. Having the Pokéball helps me get into the feeling of I am the Pokémon trainer catching these Pokémon and it was easier to judge how it was thrown. Based on that, I used less Pokéballs and found myself enjoying the gameplay much more.

Con: Pokémon Go – Catching

The fact you can catch from the Pokéball Plus is great. You get a lot more chances at more Pokémon, you get a ton more stardust, and you blow through some of your weaker Pokéballs. The bad part? It’s a one and done situation, so if you’re up against a high CP Pokémon, better chances of it running away. Also, the Pokéball Plus will ONLY use Pokéballs, not Great or Ultra, making it super important to keep a huge stock of just Pokéballs.

Con: Pokémon Go – Inventory Space

If you do not have a ton of inventory space, this Pokéball will be a bit annoying. If you don’t have inventory space, you can’t spin a stop. If you can’t spin the stop, the Pokéball Plus will keep trying every minute or so, which will give you a notification every minute or so about how you need more space.

That in itself is annoying, but the only way to make this stop is to either disconnect completely, manually go in and use a butt load of items, or to throw away items you may need after all. Either way, none of those options feel amazing. If you have a ton of space, this may not be an issue for you, but if you’re under 1000 in your item space you will have issues.
